Legio VI's participation in the
annual
Marching Through History Exposition at Prado Regional Park in Chino
over the weekend of October 20-21 was another spectacular triumph! Like Old Fort
MacArthur Days, this is a multi-period timeline with encampments spanning more
than 2,000 years of history. This year’s layout seemed particularly suited for
public access, and the crowds of people wandering through the encampment asking
questions were great. The food was likewise nothing short of amazing, a huge
thanks to Kris Lehere, Ron Glass, Laura Martos and Caius Man! Tony Martos won
the crowd over as the Emperor Hadrian, who gave an address to the assembled
soldiers of Legions VI and IX; his imperial pavilion was quite spiffy, and added
yet another dimension to the encampment. The Ballista was again a major hit
with the public and reenactors from other eras. We also debuted several new
impressions, including T. Flavius Crispus in his guise as a much-decorated
Centurion of the First Cohort. Two new legionaries joined up at the event and we
even received a Senatorial visit. The legion ended up taking 2nd Place for Best
Pre-Colonial Encampment, an improvement over our third place showing the
previous year. We look forward to an even better
showing in '06!
