Marching Through History, AD 2006

Marching Through History, held at Prado Regional Park October 21-22, 2006, proved to be one of Legio VI's best encampments yet. It marked the debut of our beautiful new Imperial pavilion, built by Tony Martos (who portrays Hadrian), as well as the legion's new leather papilio tent and a host of new impressions. Thanks to Ron and Nancy Starks for the great photographs!

A gathering of Legio VI members, civilian and military, before the beautful new Imperial pavilion (built by Tony Martos).

The new Legio VI altar, dedicated to Iovi (Jupiter) Optimus Maximus.

Marching out for the Pass-in-Review parade.

Waiting for the Pass-In-Review to get started.

Legionary Titus, aka Tom Van der Leelie, center, wins the prize for having come the furthest--Australia!-- to attend MTH with us.

The procession approaches the review stand--but who is that hooded figure at the back...?

An assassin, bent on murdering our beloved Emperor Hadrian!

Praetorian Theodosius intercepts the killer...

...as the other Praetorians and legionaries close in to defend the emperor!

The assassin is knocked to the ground while legionaries shield the Emperor.

The assassin is subdued and hogtied, while Hadrian regains his feet and composure.

The parade party returns to camp.

A nice lineup of Legio VI shields within the castra.

Proconsul Plaetorius Nepos, aka Caius Man, welcomes visitors to the Legio VI marching camp.

The Centurio's command tent and vexillum.

Optio Arrius Diogenes (Arik Greenberg) and his bride Galataea (Melissa Crandall).

Hadrian's sister Domitia Paulina (Laura Martos) and neice Julia Paulina (Alex Michaels).

Centurio T. Flavius Crispus (Dave Michaels) and Praetorian Theodosius (Ramon Castillo).

Praetorian Titus (Tom Van der Leelie) reports to the Emperor (Tony Martos).

Imperator Caesar Publius Aelius Hadrianus Augustus (Tony Martos) and his sister, Domitia Paulina (Laura Martos).

The Praetorian contingent, led by Tribune Marcus Valerius Aelianus (Jim Whitley, front left), flank Caesar.

A face-mask helmet, used by standard bearers and in "Cavalry Sports" exercises, with the Centurion's Italic G helmet.

Hadrian at rest in his grand pavilion.

Legionary Scaevola (Ron Glass) prepares a delicious meal--a lepus (rabbit) caught on a foraging expedition.

A little seasoning... mmmm, good!

Legionary Petronius (Peter Hopkins) on guard duty.

What's this, an attacker leveling a sword at Petro? (Actually, it's his daughter.)

Watch out, Petro, she looks serious!

A pair of Attic-style Praetorian helmets on the emperor's curule chair.

Lovebirds Scaevola (Ron Glass) and Vibia (Kris Lehere).

Scaevola displays Legio VI's golden Aquila (eagle standard) and Imago of Hadrian.

What's this? An itinerant salesman, Schlomo the Cheeseseller (aka Bruce Willis), shows up at the castra hawking his wares to the emperor.

Uh oh, Schlomo's in trouble--someone remembers his cheese has caused a "flux of the bowels" to afflict another legion!

The provincial governor, Plaetorius Nepos, gets in the act, reminding Schlomo of his rights as a Roman citizen.

Optio Diogenes wonders: Shall I kill him now, or wait for a proper trial?

Schlomo prostests his innocence and does a bit of groveling...

The Emperor intervenes and grants him pardon. Hail Hadrian, the merciful!
