FILM AND TV
Legio VI Victrix's ongoing work on the air and silver screen

With just over a year in existence, Legio VI Victrix has already made an impact in television and film production. Our location in the heart of the nation's entertainment and production capital makes Legio VI easily available for commercial, documentary and feature productions. Caius Man, one of our founding members, has spent over a decade as a special effects and miniatures specialist, working on feature films and television series and fully understands production requirements and demands.

For film, television, and multimedia inquiries, contact either Caius Man (818-425-9080 cell; caiusman@earthlink.net) or Dave Michaels (310-450-8634 weekdays / 661-644-1884 evenings and weekends; flaviuscrispus@yahoo.com ).

Here are some images from our television and film productions so far...

From the PBS Production "KINGDOM OF DAVID" (filmed June, 2002; aired May 14 and 21, 2003).

Setting up camp in the Judean desert.

Drusus' smile is really a grimace-- his armor is about 600 degrees!

Gaius Manlius goes under cover as a Jewish zealot. He was a lot more comfy in this get up than the rest of us in full armor!

Filavius emerges from a tent in kit as film techs lay track for their camera rig. They used real film, not videotape!

A detachment prepares to move out on patrol for Judean rebels. Three members of Legio VI are joined by a "temporary vexillation" from Legio X Fretensis.

Questioning a Judean captive. Think he gets the point?

A detachment from Legio X Fretensis of Vallejo temporarily joined Legio VI for the filming by adopting the "primrose yellow" tunics we were wearing at the time. Gratias, comilitones!

From "MAIL CALL WITH R. LEE ERMEY" for the History Channel (filmed August, 2002; aired October, 2002)

R. Lee Ermey, host of "Mail Call," pays a visit to the Legio VI encampment.

Gaius Manilius Magnus (Caius Man) explains the uses of the "Roman secret weapon," the Pilum.

Gaius and T. Flavius Crispus (Dave Michaels) give Sgt. Ermey some pointers on the gladius, or short sword.

Gaius and Flavius with the good sergeant. Gaius wears a lorica hamata (ring mail shirt) with shoulder doubling, while Flavius wears a Corbridge A lorica segmentata and Italic G helmet.

Flavius is about to demonstrate the "quick draw" techique with his gladius. Looking on is Postumus Decimus Scaevola (Ron Glass), wearing a Newstead style lorica segmentata.

Sgt. Ermey has a chat with Flavius. After filming, he gave each of us a talking R. Lee Ermey doll!

Sgt. Ermey slips into something more comfortable, a big Roman tunic. Unfortunately, the armor was not quite so loose a fit...

From "THE EAGLE AND THE CROSS" documentary by the Biblical Archaeology Society (ongoing)

A small but lethal vexillation of Legio VI poses for posterity. From left, Postumus (Ron Glass), Drusus (Doug Kihn), Gaius (Caius Man), and Flavius (Dave Michaels).

Drusus demonstrates the proper fighting stance, in which the scutum covers most of the body.

Gaius Manlius Magnus models a Corbridge A lorica segmentata and holds an Augustan-era curve-sided scutum.

Legio VI members advance in attack formation.

Scaevola, Darius and Leonidas set up a perimeter guard.
